Understand your parents as people

You grew up translating two worlds. Milna helps you ask the questions that never come up over dinner, and keep the answers in their own voice.

Built from real conversations.

Built from real conversations.

Milna started with community gatherings about deeper conversations, culture, and connection. After hosting events and hearing how many people were craving the same thing, we started building the app: a simple way to bring that feeling into everyday family life.

My parents came to the U.S. with two suitcases and sandals on, in the middle of winter. My mom was pregnant with me at the time. I grew up in a first-gen Indian household full of love, sacrifice, and high expectations. The way we showed care was through doing: working hard, getting good grades, following the rules. But there wasn’t always room for feelings, questions, or the messier parts of being human.

Like a lot of immigrant families, we talked often. But so many conversations were stuck in the same loop: “Did you eat?” “What’s new?” “How’s work?”

There's no playbook for meaningful conversations.

Over time, I realized this wasn’t just my family. Friends, cousins, and strangers were all describing the same thing: they loved their people, but didn’t always know how to reach them. It’s a strange feeling. To care, but not know what to say. To want closeness, but end up feeling more distant.

That’s why I’m building Milna. Because connection shouldn’t depend on crisis, coincidence, nostalgia, or someone finally knowing where to begin. Milna gives families a simple way to ask better questions, hear each other in their own voices, and save the stories that help us feel closer to where we come from.

Common questions people ask before they begin.

No. They can listen and reply without downloading the app. Milna is designed to make it easy for parents, grandparents, and family members to participate without extra setup.

Recording first invites vulnerability from others. Instead of sending someone a random question, you're opening the door with your own story and modeling the behavior.

Milna gives you prompts about family, culture, childhood, identity, food, love, memory, and the stories people rarely think to ask about.

Milna is designed for personal stories. You choose what to record, save, and share.
